Stamped Concrete on Long Island

Stamped concrete gives you the look of stone, slate or brick with the strength of a single poured slab. Masoncrete Builders installs stamped concrete patios, driveways, walkways and pool surrounds for homeowners in Dix Hills and throughout Suffolk County.

As our original site described it, our stamped concrete installation provides durable and visually stunning surfaces that mimic stone or brick, a great way to boost curb appeal.

Where stamped concrete works best

How we install it

Stamped concrete starts the same way as any good slab: excavation, a compacted stone base, forms and reinforcement. The difference is in the finishing. Color is added to the concrete, then a release agent and textured stamping mats are pressed into the surface while the concrete is still workable. Timing matters, so the crew works the slab in sections. After it cures, the surface is cleaned and sealed to lock in the color.

Caring for stamped concrete

Sealer is what keeps stamped concrete looking rich. Plan to clean and reseal periodically, more often on driveways and on surfaces that see salt. Use a plastic shovel blade in winter and avoid harsh de-icers on new concrete. Our blog post How to protect concrete from salt and freeze-thaw damage covers this in detail.

Stamped concrete or pavers?

Both are good choices for Long Island homes, and the right answer depends on the look you want, how you will use the space and how you feel about maintenance. We wrote a straight comparison: Stamped concrete vs. pavers for Long Island winters. If you are leaning toward individual units, see our paver work.

Stamped Concrete FAQ

Is stamped concrete slippery?
A sealed, smooth surface can be slick when wet. Texture choice and a slip-resistant additive in the sealer help. We will talk through options for pool decks and steps.
Can stamped concrete be colored?
Yes. Color is added to the concrete and an accent color is typically used to highlight the texture.
Can you stamp an existing slab?
Stamping happens while new concrete is still workable, so it is done on a new pour. For worn existing concrete, see concrete repair and resurfacing.
